SME Membership: 180.

Profile: AIPnD was founded in 1979. It has approximately 1000 members including companies, institutes, research centres, schools, universities, and the manufacturers and suppliers of NDT and SHM equipment. Eighty percent of its corporate members are SMEs. Its aims are:-

  • To promote scientific and technical awareness of developments in NDT and SHM through information and education.
  • To improve the professionalism of those operating in the sector.
  • To promote the life and culture of the association by encouraging the exchange of ideas, experience and knowledge among its members.

Role in the Project/Tasks Attributed: To survey the ship building and ship repair/maintenance market in Italy and southern Europe generally, its current and future needs (WP 1), to input into the training and certification needs for technicians (WP 7), to provide and facilitate dissemination and exploitation plans in Bulgaria and the Balkans, organise National Conferences & Workshops, and help prepare guidelines for technician training and certification where appropriate (WP 8).

Staff involved: Sergio Ghia, Board Member.

Benefits to the Consortium: Signor Roberto Gittardi, who is President of AIPnD will be an invaluable associate for the consortium. Signor Gittardi has considerable world wide influence in the NDT field through his membership of the International Committee of NDT (ICNDT) with its 65 national society members. The ICNDT organises the quadrennial World Conference on NDT and signor Gittardi is a member of the organising committee for this. A presentation on the plans for Ship-Inspector will be made at the 2008 conference and a number of papers on the technical achievements will be presented at the 2012 conference.

Reasons for Participation: AIPnD wishes to participate in Ship-Inspector because it covers both NDT and condition monitoring diagnostics. It sees the project as falling within the first of the aims listed above in the shipping industry.
