Profile: BNDTS is the Bulgarian National Institute representing all of those involved in non destructive testing and SHM in Bulgaria. It was formed in 1991 out of the NDT Section of the Bulgarian National Scientific and Technical Union. It is a member of the European Federation for NDT. Over 70% of its member companies are SMEs, including SME inspection service providers and other companies involved in NDT. BNDTS is a key player in developing and administering qualification and certification schemes within Bulgaria, and ensuring that these conform to the requirements of EN473 - Requirements for the certification of NDT personnel.
Role in the Project/Tasks Attributed: To survey the ship building and ship repair/maintenance market in Bulgaria and the Balkans generally, its current and future needs (WP 1), to input into the training and certification needs for technicians (WP 7), to provide and facilitate dissemination and exploitation plans in Bulgaria and the Balkans, organise National Conferences & Workshops, and help prepare guidelines for technician training and certification where appropriate (WP 8).

Benefits to the Consortium: BNDTS will give the consortium valuable insights into the needs of eastern European countries, both within and outside the EU concerning shipping and NDT. It will also provide access to the innovative Ship-Inspector technology for eastern European SMEs that are active in the fields of phased array UT sensors.
Reasons for Participation: BNDTS wishes to participate in the Ship-Inspector project as it will give their SME member companies an opportunity to become involved in the rapidly growing in-service inspection market for shipping.
