 EWF- European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting

EWF, EC.

Profile: Formed in 1991, EWF's origins go back to 1974 when it was first instigated through the main EC members at that time. As an EC Federation, it now represents the main welding AGs throughout the EC with 26 main members and a number of EC and non-EC affiliates.

Objectives:

  • Promoting the interests of the International welding industry through its members worldwide.
  • Facilitating harmonised education, training and qualification systems to provide the welding industry with qualified and skilled personnel at all levels.
  • Facilitating a harmonised European scheme for welding company certification and certification of welding personnel.
  • Collaborating in areas of mutual interests.

Mission: To provide world class, European focused, value added products and support services to its members and their communities in the field of joining, welding and related technologies on an international basis.

Vision: To be an essential global network in the fields of:

  • Joining, welding, cutting and related technologies;
  • Indispensible to members in the achievement of their strategic objectives;
  • Cutting, surface treatment, mechanical fastening and adhesive bonding.

Role in the Project: To survey the shipping NDT & Condition Monitoring market in Europe, its current and future needs (WP 1), to input into the training and certification needs for technicians (WP 7), to provide and facilitate dissemination and exploitation plans in Europe, organise National Conferences & Workshops, and help prepare guidelines for technician training and certification where appropriate (WP 8).

Benefits to the Consortium: As Europe's main AG for welding activities, EWF has an extensive network of SME welding and training organisations and will therefore be a key partner in disseminating the results of the project and also in coordinating the training activities.

Expected benefits to partner: EWF sees the Ship Inspector project as an opportunity to provide its members with an additional tool to help them improve the quality and efficiency of their ship maintenance tasks.
