The Health and Safety Executive (HSE). UK.

Profile: HSE are responsible for health and safety regulation in the UK. The Health and Safety Executive and local government are the enforcing authorities who work in support of the Commission. HSE's mission is to protect people's health and safety by ensuring risks in the changing workplace are properly controlled. The HSE look after health and safety in nuclear installations and mines, factories, farms, hospitals and schools, offshore gas and oil installations, the safety of the gas grid and the movement of dangerous goods and substances, and many other aspects of the protection both of workers and the public. Local authorities are responsible to HSC for enforcement in offices, shops and other parts of the services sector.

Role in the Project/Tasks Attributed: Input and advice through all aspects of the project as to the UK legislative ship inspection requirements and were appropriate European legislation & Directives.

Benefits to the Consortium: Will bring a European regulatory and legislative dimension and expertise to the consortium that no other participant can. Also they will be supportive and influential in the take up of the resultant leap in technology.

Reasons for Participation: As the UK Regulatory Authority, the HSE needs to be aware and abreast of the NDT developments and inspection techniques that may impact the safety of UK and European shipping in UK and European waters.
